I have taught in Roanoke City public schools for over twenty years. My philosophy is simple...Find out where a student is, make a connection and proceed to the path for success.
Due to a change in instruction the following is added:
Monday – Students will complete asynchronous assignments on their own time.*
Tuesday – Students will sign into Teams via Canvas for synchronous instruction using the following schedule:
9:00-9:45: 1st Period
9:45-10:30: 2nd Period
10:30-11:15: 3rd Period
11:15-12:00: 4th Period
Wednesday – Students will sign into the group Teams to meet with Ms. Iferika from 9:00-9:30. Afterward, teachers will have open hours for students who need additional assistance.**
Thursday – Students will sign into Teams via Canvas for synchronous instruction using the following schedule:
9:00-9:45: 1st Period
9:45-10:30: 2nd Period
10:30-11:15: 3rd Period
11:15-12:00: 4th Period
Friday – Students will complete asynchronous assignments/assessments on their own time.
Student Expectations
We recognize utilizing a virtual learning environment may be challenging for our students. However, in order to ensure that students have positive learning experiences, we expect each student to engage appropriately, including
· adhering to the RCPS Code of Conduct.
· participating in synchronous sessions daily and on time.
· being respectful of others.
· refraining from participating in any behaviors that may result in a distraction from learning for yourself or others, including playing music, making gestures or signs, interrupting others, using inappropriate language, and/or wearing inappropriate clothing.
· raising your(virtual) hand to speak and being patient while waiting to be recognized by the teacher.
· completing assignments and assessments as directed by the teacher in a timely manner.
· using the chat box only to ask questions and to respond to prompts when directed by your teacher.
· never giving out your password to another student.
Parent/Guardian Expectations
In order to promote a positive learning environment for your student, please
· create a regular schedule for learning in the home.
· provide a space for learning for your student that is comfortable for learning, free from distractions, and equipped with supplies needed for instruction.
· set high expectations for learning with your student.
· be positive with your student and support your teacher.
· monitor online behavior.
· be an advocate for your student and communicate with your student’s teacher(s).
· contact the Technology Help Desk with RCPS computer hardware or software issues at 853-6070.
